JUST AS SOME smudging blends are designed to calm and relax, others energise, revitalise and stimulate. When feeling disheartened, unsure and in need of encouragement, or perhaps just physically exhausted and in need of energy, instead of drinking a cup of coffee, enjoy a herbal infusion or perform a smudging session with rosemary or resins from domestic coniferous trees for a warming, energising effect.

Herbs and resins that revitalise and fortify

exotic: calamus, camphor, cardamom, cedar, cinnamon, cloves, copal (white), cypress, dragon’s blood, elemi, eucalyptus, galangal, mastic, myrrh, nutmeg, sage (white)

Rosemary and juniper are both stimulants (so those with high blood pressure or suffering from epilepsy must be careful), whereas cinnamon and cloves warm, inspire and stimulate, and verbena helps with the making of decisions and activates inner strength. Aniseed, lemon verbena, mint and white copal are all refreshing.

Highly energising and stimulating herbs and resins should not be burned just before going to bed; instead use warming and relaxing plants. Including a dash of the color red (such as from dragon’s blood or red sandalwood) enhances the effects of energising blends.
