Practices to support awakening – Week 4

This month we’ve been exploring what is, through a clear lens, and accepting things as they are. The goal, no matter what the situation is right now, is to greet ourselves with love. This week, here are some practices and tools to help you at this stage especially.

In any form, meditation is one of the best ways to create space for awakening. In creating a place of external calm and safety, you allow that internally on a deep level. While you may understand meditation as sitting on a cushion cross-legged with your hands resting on your knees, or something else entirely, how you do it isn’t critical. Here are a few other options to try:

  • Walking meditation: Find a simple rhythm and cadence, walking perhaps twice as slowly as normal. If you can do this barefoot on the earth, wonderful – but if it’s from the parking garage to your office door or in the corridors of a shopping mall, that’s fine too. As you find your pace, allowing your heel then the outer edge of your foot then your toes find the ground, begin saying a mantra of some sort. You can begin with “I am so blessed, I am such a blessing to the world” or “All is well and all will be well”, for example. If you’re able to say the mantra aloud, excellent. In a mall, you might want to say it in your head – or not! Just a few minutes of this throughout the day can bring you to a state of relaxation – and allow for you to listen to far more than the usual voices of your day.

About those voices – we all have them. We tend to call them thoughts, although many of them are planted in our brains, vs. original ideas. Some of them are learned through family, culture, religion and education. Some of them seem to be lineage beliefs carried from a time before we were conscious. And a lot of them come from fearmongering, to be honest.

It doesn’t really matter what the origins are, does it? At this stage of transformation, it’s about being aware of them and acknowledging that they may not be true to who you are becoming. Here are a couple of ways to gently work with them, for now:

  • Flipping the coin: a very simple way of reminding yourself that not everything is true, to you. Say you think “I am too old to learn a new game”. The opposite of that might be “I have had time to practice so many skills that will help me learn this”. Or “I must wear makeup when I go out”, which could flip to “When I go out, I love playing with makeup” or “I can go out and allow myself to be seen barefaced”. The flip will depend on you and can be a lot of fun to play with. Start with the small things, and you’ll begin to see many facets of where you are right now.

  • Who said that? This is one of my favourite ways to uncover those hidden beliefs we all have. When you catch a random yet repetitive thought, stop for a minute and ask yourself who said that. It may be something simple like calling yourself lazy when maybe you really need a nap, then realizing that your grade one teacher often said, “lazy hands are the devil’s tools”. Sometimes these are tied together in our brains – “Fat people are lazy” which I heard often from women in the diet-crazed, Twiggy-worshipping 1970s. Once you see these, it becomes easier to unravel what’s true to you and what is not – a valuable part of this Awakening stage of metamorphosis.

And one last practice to begin now and perhaps make a habit throughout your life.

Silence.

The power of silence, it seems, has been forgotten in our world. Even in the most rural of settings, there is often a television on in the background at businesses and in homes. Our phones connect us in a way that’s both miraculous and sometimes overwhelming. Cars, motorbikes and bakkies make even the outdoors loud and chaotic, all too often.

If we want it, we must deliberately create quiet. Time and space to listen deep within, instead of constantly filtering out noise. If you are used to background noise, maybe start with ten minutes and slowly work towards an hour a day, whenever it works for you.

As we move through this Transformation of You, these quiet times will help you integrate everything. And who knows, it may become the best part of your day!

Before we close this month, we’d love to leave you with some insightful words from Sharyn Ann Mc Neil regarding the numerology of the word “Awaken”. Perhaps it offers a little food for thought as you continue your own journey of transformation and reflection.

Oh, dear reader, what I absolutely love about the numerology of the word “Awaken” is how perfectly – almost magically – it aligns with its meaning.

When we break it down:
A-W-A-K-E-N = 1 + 5 + 1 + 2 + 5 + 5 = 19 > 10 > 1

“Awaken” simplifies to 10 and finally lands at the beautiful number 1 – the number of new beginnings, leadership, and possibilities.

It feels as though the universe is gently whispering that awakening is about stepping into fresh energy, embracing new light, and having the courage to begin again. There is a quiet power in that first step – one that doesn’t require force, only presence.

Think of it like a dance. The energy of number 1 becomes your partner, inviting you to listen deeply, to feel its rhythm, and to move in harmony with it. Awakening, then, is not something you chase – it’s something you allow. A graceful unfolding into your own power, guided by trust.

And perhaps even more beautifully, we find ourselves in a Universal Year 1 – a time that amplifies this very essence of renewal, leadership, and transformation. The energy is not subtle; it’s alive, stirring, almost tangible.

There’s a collective rising taking place – a quiet yet powerful awakening of love and faith across the world. And when love awakens, faith naturally follows. Suddenly, the idea of a united humanity no longer feels distant, but possible: one heartbeat, one love, one shared existence.

Each of us, in our own awakened way, becomes part of this unfolding dance – moving toward deeper connection, compassion, and truth.

What a remarkable time to be alive.
