The Reiki Guild South Africa recently celebrated its first anniversary
The guild was created after identifying a need for Reiki practitioners and teachers to have an inclusive place to connect and learn, regardless of their lineage or affiliation. And so the guild was born – an organisation that supports and guides all of its members in an environment of mutual respect, learning and growth.
Our other key objective is to broaden the scope of Reiki in South Africa and to raise awareness of Reiki and its benefits to the public by participating in public outreach programmes and wellness days, of which we have held several in the past year. Reiki-share days, in-person get-togethers and Reiki retreats are in the pipeline for 2025.
“We chose the word guild because it means ‘an association of people for mutual aid or the pursuit of a common goal’, which couldn’t be more fitting as to our purpose,” says Angela Whitehouse, co-founder.
Our Members come from all walks of life and bring a wealth of experience to the table. We currently have 54 members across five provinces, who are listed on our site for the public to access and we are expanding at a rapid rate. Within our first year we have held seven webinars and partnered in three events, with our fourth event coming up in November. We also provide a mentoring service for all our members, a teachers’ platform to advertise their courses and we have a large members’ resources section on our website for both practitioners and teachers, to assist them with fresh ideas for their practices and classes. We also have an ‘associate member’ option for those who aren’t quite ready to be listed as practitioners on our site, but would like access to resources and some mentoring before getting their practices off the ground.
Monique Swart, co-founder says: ”Our webinars have covered a wide range of different topics to assist our members. These have included guidance on building their practices and understanding Reiki trends in South Africa. We also encourage our members to plan and host their own webinars on any topic that interests them, for the benefit of all other members. Offering continuing education opportunities and providing a safe space for practitioners and teachers to connect and share knowledge and resources is fundamental to our vision. We believe that working together and uplifting each other is the key to the growth of Reiki in South Africa and ensures that Reiki is practised in a safe, ethical and effective way.”
“When we launched the guild, our aim was to make it a truly interactive space where knowledge, resources and news is shared. We believe that everyone has something to offer, and we are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive platform for all members, where there is a sense of belonging and community,” says Angela.
