Ownership & Integrity as we Align to Our Knowing
Our ability to tune into our knowing, whether through guidance or intuition, takes time to strengthen as we build that relationship with our own higher wisdom. Often we don’t initially trust it, preferring to call it a gut feeling or instinct, possibly as that phrase used to be more socially acceptable. The rational world we grew up in loves a linear path of deductive reasoning, backed up by a version of the truth we’ve called facts. I often call them the “should’s”. The things that we should do or are expected to believe, especially where we are still attached to an outcome that we thought we could control – a life path we are on, a story we were told or a picture on our vision board. I am all for creating a visual image of how I want life to feel, but we need to hold these concepts loosely as the Universe often has a better plan than we can ever comprehend. Our knowing loves a tremendous leap from left field that defies that traditional path, and it often runs contrary to the logical need to explain everything. More often than not, we just know that we know. Full stop and no explanation required.
However, a lack of trust in that little nudge, or staying busy on the hamster wheel of life often keeps us from the wisdom of our knowing as we distract and numb ourselves with productivity, chasing and doing more. Luckily our knowing is kind and persistent. It keeps knocking as it loudens from whisper to nudge to the universal equivalent of messaging in ALL CAPS. Guidance may initially show up in different ways: a song, the phrasing of a friend, a passage in a book, a bird or billboard. I used to look for guidance in external confirmation in my daily life all the time. The proverbial ‘signs’. They did and still do show up – usually when I have been busy, resisting stillness by not intentionally creating moments for guidance to visit – like the sub-titles to my life. After many years of building this trusted relationship, my knowing is now ever present. It’s a deep knowing like a gong through my soul; a word or a sentence that I often hear in my own voice, in real time; or maybe even see as a series of images like an excerpt from a movie trailer; or hear in an individual’s voice (with accompanying sense of humour) that I can discern as a specific guardian’s energy. And birds still walk into my house. Now I just follow them outside.

A close friend had been feeling frustrated by her current situation for months, and was desperate for the next steps forward in her career and location to become clear. She recently told me that her guides were changing their minds and had provided conflicting messages – in the space of 48 hours. I chose to gently nudge her that guides don’t provide conflicting information and change their mind. Intellectual whiplash is generally our ego and fear so uncomfortable in the current situation that we try to force the way forward. Unless you’re in danger, acting out of ego or fear normally leads to more frustration and resistance. To discern when it is ego and fear running the show, guidance will bring you clarity and peace not chaos and uncertainty. Trust what feels steady and consistent, not scattered. Your intuition brings ease and when we doubt that knowing, or feel it is too good to be true, that is when we negotiate with fear or ego. Your knowing doesn’t need chasing or convincing. It just arrives.
I suggested that this friend find a quiet space and write down how she wanted her next steps to feel. Was this feeling more connected to nature, more spaciousness and easeful in living and daily commute, less financial uncertainty, more connections and friendships in a supportive community? Patience is always required as life never unfolds on our timeline of instant satisfaction. Two weeks later, I got a call from her asking to bounce something off me. A virtually rent-free Guardianship, living in a cottage on a horse ranch in exchange for caretaking fifteen hours a month, with time for other flexible work ventures had materialised – and all the steps had fallen into place in a matter of a week, with ease.
The solutions and steps, including intuitively knowing how to approach each one, had all been lined up. When my friend said yes to the invitation and took aligned action with gratitude, the clarity creating universal slip stream of life showed up. Wherever and whatever we believe this knowing comes from, be it ourselves, our guides, guardians, angels, the Divine, the Universe or our Higher Self, it is coming from a version of our highest wisdom. And that guidance and wisdom is always for our higher good and the highest good of all. So if your guidance indicates harm to another or curtails another’s freedom, that is ego (and something else) holding the reins.
Tuning into our intuition used to require alignment to our higher wisdom. Now the energy we are working in and with is being refined, and it is integrity that is required. What we say, our actions, our energy and intention have to be consistently aligned at our core. This is now a way of being, not something we do or pay lip service to. Over the past few years I encountered many who said the right thing, but it was superficial. Their actions were unaligned with and belied their spoken intent. The margin for lack of integrity is now evaporating – and we are all capable of sensing that lack of integrity between words, actions, energy and intention. For me, that lack of coherence creates a full body NO. There is no discussion or explanation required – it’s simply not resonant and I move on. Our knowing is not always for others. It’s often just for us as an internal guidance system. We need to have integrity in how we consistently follow our knowing, how we share it and how we show up.

Integrity is also in everything we do, and how we clean up our side of the street. The dissonance in claiming spirituality and then gossiping, judging or being mean to animals or individuals can no longer be brushed under a rug. And it does not matter if no one is watching, as our energy is our calling card and we are always observing ourselves. Our energy now introduces us before we say a word, and as more people tune into their knowing our intuition will pick up any dissonance energetically, whether consciously or unconsciously. This matters in both the small and big things we do in life, acknowledging that inaction is also an action. We will, no doubt, occasionally get things wrong. This journey is about learning for ourselves and making small tweaks accordingly as we move forward with integrity in our intent.
Integrity in how we embrace our knowing through word, action, intention and energy every day, is how we align back to our soul’s purpose. We take ownership of ourselves and our path as we shore up and solidify our knowing. No one else is responsible, as we hold the power in our response. The more often you visit and tread this path, the easier it will be to find and know. Not intellectually, but within every cell of your being.
