Autumn 2021

Sitting at my workstation, I reflected on what I most wanted to share with you in this edition which features healing trauma and transforming our lives. I glanced up at my motivation station beside me, and a cutting with a note jumped out at me.

“Wherever you are, in this moment, you are EXACTLY WHERE YOU NEED TO BE”

In these uncertain times, we question everything: “What should I be doing”, “am I doing what I am supposed to be doing”, “am I feeling as I am supposed to feel” …
questioning our circumstance, finances, work life, family relationships, our actions and inaction. In the moment we often want to lash out or simply withdraw; most of us have been through a great deal in the past 13 months.
Before you look forward, take a quick look back to a previous time in your life when things weren’t how you envisaged them being or perhaps you found yourself in a place you didn’t want to be? A time when things seemed to be going horribly wrong? Looking back, you learned to cope and heal, you moved forward and it all worked out – it brought you the strength to get to where you are today.

In this edition we feature a number of articles to heal, support, uplift and inspire you along the next leg of your life’s journey. We take a look a mental health, Covid-fatigue, healing through journaling and many ways to transform your life healthfully, mindfully and holistically.

No matter where you are right now, the next thing that happens will be the right thing, even if it doesn’t feel that way when it’s happening. When we are able to allow ourselves to move through whatever circumstance or event we face with faith, grace and ease and we are no longer resisting the flow, but moving with the flow, we allow the next moment to align with what we had in mind.

Take a few minutes and reflect back. You might find that this moment is perfect, exactly as it is.

It is no secret that the print media industry had been struggling for many years, it was still a massive shock when, as we moved in to hard lockdown, the print magazine industry started to collapse. Over 20 titles went out of print in 90 days. We had just taken Odyssey back into print in 2019 after seven years of digital only under the previous custodians … and I found myself asking these same questions: “What should I be doing; am I doing what I am supposed to be doing?”

On reflection a year down the line… YES! The world has changed for ever and what has become very clear is that a focused bespoke magazine, beautifully and tastefully designed with targeted content to nourish, still plays a vital role in enabling organisations to engage and communicate with the consumer.

Recent research has identified that print magazines are considered the most credible platform over TV, radio, the Internet, digital platforms and, more specifically, social media.

Notwithstanding this, we realised that an omni-channel approach was essential to Odyssey not only surviving but thriving. Our print magazine does not exist in isolation and we have undertaken significant development in the enhancement of our digital assets. We now offer our readers an online smartphone-enabled eZine, a Digimag which is available by subscription on our website and on Magzter, the world’s largest digital news stand.

As I reflect, I find that this moment is indeed perfect, exactly as it is and Odyssey Magazine is exactly where it needs to be.

All love Debra
